Introduction:

Crystals have been used for metaphysical purposes throughout history. From ancient Sumeria and Egypt, to China and Renaissance Europe, many believed they contained energies and auras that affect a person’s vibration state. Thus, crystals have been used in conjunction with their healing and transformative properties.

Today, we'll explore how these gems can be incorporated in meditative practices to maximize their benefits.

Why Meditate with Crystals?

Every crystal is believed to emit a unique vibrational energy that can influence your body, mind, and emotions. When a person meditates, they harmonize and align with their own energy. By adding a crystal to this practice, they also increase the strength of the stone’s vibrational influence. It is the perfect opportunity to connect a specific intention to your crystal so that it manifests your needs and desires.

Beginner Friendly Crystals

There are a few crystals that may be easier to work with as you learn to meditate with them:

  • Amethyst is considered to be a gentle, relaxed crystal. It is excellent for deepening meditation and heightening spiritual awareness.

  • Clear Quartz is believed to promote healing and is a powerful amplifier of all energies. It helps clear the mind and increases focus and concentration.

  • Rose Quartz is said to instill love, compassion, and emotional healing. It opens the heart chakra, making it easy to connect with one's inner self.

  • Selenite is said to be a tool for purifying and cleaning energy. It creates a peaceful and protective space for your meditation.

  • Lapis Lazuli enhances intellectual capacity and creates the longing for knowledge and truth. It opens the door to the third eye chakra, aiding in achieving deep meditation and self-discovery.

Preparing Your Crystals:

As crystals can absorb positive and negative energies, it's wise to cleanse them often. You can submerge them in saltwater, lay them out for the night under the full moon, charge them in the sun, or use smoke from sage or santo palo.

Setting Up Your Meditation Space

Establish a quiet and peaceful space for meditation. It’s better if this place is free from loud noises and distractions. Make sure you choose a comfortable position such as the lotus position (criss-cross-apple-sauce), lying down, or sitting in a chair with your feet on the ground. It may feel nice to burn incense, a candle, light a diffuser, or put on some music.

Crystal Meditation Techniques

  • General Meditation: You may choose to ease into the practice by simply meditating with your crystal present. Hold it in the palm of your hand, or place it nearby, and focus on its unique energy. Concentrate on this energy and allow yourself to be guided by it in your meditation.

If you wish to manifest specific properties of the stone, include an intention within your meditation. For example, someone struggling with insecurities and self-esteem might meditate with Rose Quartz while focusing on intentions such as, “I am enough,” “I am vibrant and beautiful,” “I love my whole self,” etc.

  • Body Layouts with Stones: Using stones on the body — such as placing them on specific chakras to open or align energy centers— is another option. This is recommended if there is a part of your physical or energetic body that you want to heal or transform. For example, you might place Amethyst on your forehead (the Third Eye Chakra) to enhance intuition and foresight.

This practice may bring up unexpected emotions or feelings, so don’t be startled if you feel a shift in your energy! Simply end your meditation and engage in practice of self-love, such as a walk in nature or a warm drink.

  • Crystal Singing Bowls: Crystal singing bowls are often used in meditational practices such as sound baths. There are many practitioners who offer private or group sessions with singing bowls. The vibrations emitted from both the crystal’s energy and sound waves contribute to a deeply healing, soothing, and nourishing experience.

It’s also possible to learn to play these singing bowls at home for a personalized meditation session.

  • Crystal Grids: Certain shapes and patterns are believed to generate lots of energy. These geometric shapes are used to manifest intentions such as tranquility, abundance, protection, and more intricate themes.

It’s important to research these grids before your mediation so that you can make sure you have the right combination of crystals.

  • Combining Crystals with Other Practices: Crystal can be included in other practices such as Reiki, aromatherapy, and yoga. Remember, the purpose of crystal meditation is to align energy and increase the strength of their properties. This means any practice that feels meditative can involve them!

If the yoga studio or crystal grid isn’t your thing, but you feel most connected and reflective on a hike or while journaling, then that’s the perfect crystal meditation for you!

Summary

Connecting with your crystals and incorporating them into meditative practices will give you increased access to their metaphysical benefits. Don’t forget to cleanse and charge your crystals, especially the ones you find yourself using often, to make sure they’re at their full potential.

You can begin your journey using this guide, but we encourage doing more research if you discover this is something that aligns with you!

Remember, always follow your intuition, explore with an open mind, and allow yourself to be guided by the energy of the crystals. There are no hard and fast rules, so you can’t get it “wrong.” Rather, you should feel free to adapt any practice to suit your energy, needs, and journey.

Happy meditating!
