Though it was only recently uncovered in southern Africa, this stone has enchanted many with its reputed healing and protective properties. Pietersite is a type of microcrystalline quartz, composed of silicified riebeckite and limonite. It is classified as a chalcedony, enriched with amphibole minerals, and is believed to include elements from several gemstones, including jasper. With its vibrant kaleidoscope of swirling gold, brown, red, and occasionally blue tones, it is often referred to as “Tempest Stone” due to the way its surface patterns mimic a turbulent storm.
This stunning stone is also said to possess “the keys to the kingdom of heaven.” Many crystal healers and lightworkers cherish it for its ability to connect users with the Divine and facilitate access to higher dimensions.
Discovered by Sid Pieters in Namibia in 1962 while he was searching for farmland, this relatively new find was named in his honor. Pietersite gradually gained recognition for its beautiful earthy hues and striking chatoyancy, often leading to its misidentification as Tiger’s Eye or Hawk’s Eye.
