The term “labradorite” originates from the French word for Labrador, where this type of rock was first discovered by Moravian missionaries in Canada in 1770. Labradorite continues to be mined in this region today.

Historically, Labradorite has been regarded as a protective amulet against evil spirits, offering safety to its wearer. It was also believed to bring happiness, courage, intuition, strength, and even invisibility to those who possess it.

Gemstone experts note that the colors of Labradorite resemble flickering lightning. This enchanting quality is particularly visible when the stone is moved in light or dimly lit environments. This phenomenon has contributed to the meaning of labradorite, as some believe the stone reflects the essence of lightning. The colors can range from peacock blue to light blue crystals, often interspersed with hues of pale green and gold.

Labradorite is found in a spectrum of shades, including pale blue, dark blue, green, and yellow, with each hue more stunning than the last. The most prevalent shade is a delicate gray-blue that shimmers with hints of purple and silver.

Traditionally, Labradorite serves as the birthstone for November. It is also associated with the night sky, and legends suggest that the iridescent flashes of the aurora borealis (the northern lights) inspired the mesmerizing sheen of these stones.
